Do A Good Turn Too and Donate Your Unwanted Car To Goodwill
Mike Hernandez knew all too well what it was like to be stranded without a car. Ten years ago Mike was worried about losing his job. His company was relocating. Not out of state but it might as well have been for Mike. Mike was at the mercy of the public bus system and had used the public bus system to get to and from work each day. The company’s new building was not on or near the bus route, leaving Mike worried sick about how he would get to work. He liked his job as a maintenance worker for his company . Besides that, he needed this job to supply for his family and decent jobs that were accessible by bus were hard to come by. Mike swears his guardian angel was looking out for him. This angel brought him Margaret Sears. Margaret was older, in poor health and ready to give up driving. She didn’t want to sell her car to some used car lot. Her family said they only way she would stop driving is if she could donate her used car to somebody who would truly appreciate it. That angel happened to connect Margaret’s daughter with Mike one morning at the supermarket. How it started doesn’t matter. How it ended was that Mike soon had a ‘new’ car to get him to his company’s new location. Call if the angel of auto donation if you will.
When Mike Hernandez was ready to buy his first new car, he immediately thought about donating a car to charity. All he wanted was to donate a car to someone in need as someone had done for him years ago. He had seen plenty of signs about auto donation while riding the bus and then while driving his car to and from work. He had spent some time calling various organizations to find out how to donate a car to charity. That’s how Mike found about Goodwill Industries. Goodwill Industries relies on vehicle donation to fund many important programs that they reach out to the community with. When it came to choosing a charity, Mike chose to donate a car to a charity like Goodwill because of the their Wheels to Work program, a program that uses car donation to connect low income persons in need of dependable transportation to an affordable car so that they can keep or obtain employment. In Mike’s own words “one good turn deserves another’ and vehicle donation is one way to give back.
